Default Speedo transducer

A tale of woe..I had the output shaft bearings replaced by my trusty mechanic. Hid did a great job, but in the process he broke the speedo transducer. Major bummer!
I sourced a used item off ebay for £20. I left it with him only to find on my return that he had fitted the replacement but after road testing my car he found the speedo not working still. He removed the replacement transducer only to find that it had snapped inside it's mounting. The cost of an oem item, if you can source one is £114.
Anybody any ideas as to why the replacement item broke in it's mount. My mechanic seems to think that the inner ring sender may have moved. Anyway I am now looking for yet another replacement. The joys of motoring......

I *think* there are mounting shims to adjust the clearance between the sensor/transducer and differential ring gear. If the shims were left out, or not enough of them used....clash !

Just speculation on my part.

Others who know more will chime in.

Cheers

That makes sense Doug. I did notice tere are several grey plastic shims. Thanks for the heads up, I will have a chat with my man. Cheers Mate.
