Strange Brake Light - FIXED
My '93 XJ40 has developed a strange problem with the light for a few days . The issue is that that light comes on each time I press onto the brake pedal .
Normally , it should come on along with the ABS light when starting the engine and should come off a few seconds later and that just happens too
ABS works as it should so is other brake components .
The light comes off within a few seconds unless I use the brake pedal and come on again when I step onto the brake pedal .Anyone has some inputs ?
Thanks

Hi Caddy,
Wnem you depress the pedal and the warning illuminates, at the same time press the "VCM" button on your trip computer. If yours is like a U.S. car, your odometer reading will be be replaced by the word "PAD", of "FLUID", or "FAIL". The most likely event is that a front or rear brake pad sensor is open circuit, either from a bad connection or because it is worn out.

Hi JagTech,
Thanks for your reply . Yes, I pressed the VCM button and saw "PAD" word on the screen. The funny thing is that my pads were recently changed and drove the car w/o any faulty message for a quite miles

Caddy,
On a U.S. market XJ6 of your vintage, there is a brake pad sensor for the left front and the right rear inboard brake pad. These sensors are transferable, if you are careful you can remove them from the old pads for re-use. One of them might have broken when installed, and the sensor wire was rubbed through by the brake rotor. Or there is some corrosion on the connector pins where the sensor leads plug into the harness. Either way it is no drama, your brakes are fine. Just bring it back to the guy who changed your pads so he can sort it out.
