Teves Mark II accumulator, pump and motor assembly
Need a little advice.
The ABS accumulator in my 1990 VDP is failing and needs to be replaced.
The accumulator ball in my XJ40 won't come out.
I can't remove it from the pump and motor assembly. I need to overcome the red sealant that is sealing
the accumulator to the pump housing. Heat or a solvent?
I've done this job in my "95 XJS without any trouble what so ever...
It looks like I have two choices:
1. try a small torch (with all safety issues...) around the base of the ball where it screws into the block.
2. Replace the entire pump and motor assembly with a reman.
Any solutions?
Thank you,
Roger

Hi Roger,
I see that Bryan N has already replied in "another forum." :-) I had success doing as he instructs by removing the assembly, padding it with leather and clamping it in a bench vise, then using a strap wrench with a rubber strap (as opposed to the chain style Bryan mentioned). Strap wrenches are inexpensive and commonly available at hardware stores, auto parts stores and home stores like Lowes and Home Depot.
I see from your other post at the other forum that you already know about GM accumulator P/N 25528382. :-)
Cheers,
Don
Thanks Don, that's what's going in, the GM 25528382. My XJS had the red sealant and my Ingersoll Rand impact gun went right through it. This time it stripped the hole in the hex fitting...? The Locktite website says the only way to break the grip of Locktite Red is 500 degrees F. I do have a small torch I can use to heat up the joint.

Thank you Don, I completely agree re the heat. I'm afraid the damn thing would blow up in my face! I'll be removing the pump and motor assembly and disassembling it on the bench. I was hoping to avoid a system bleed but "that ain't gonna happen".
