Default Thinking about an XJ40 for my wife. Any thoughts?

I dont let my wife drive my '04 XJ8 very often. She hates her mini-van, but we need its roominess for specific activities. I found an ad for a 1994 XJ with 89k for only $2k. The ad doesnt specify which XJ and I havent called on it yet. The ad says that it runs and drives like a new car, the interior is near perfect and the only body damage is a little hail damage. While doing research, I havent found much to scare me off. Heres the pic from the ad.

It looks like a VDP because of tinted rear lights .It seems a good deal and you are already used to Jaguars so you know parts are not cheap either . Well, you can go for it but if it suffers from a tranny or engine malfunction repair could be a few times more expensive than the price you would pay for

Actually the price seems on the low side-not a bad thing. I have had no problems with my 94 with 65,000 miles other than the common issues and routine maintenance. The shock bushings, radiator bushings,ac condensor bushings, and the trans support bushing all had to be replaced. All those parts were on the cheap side and I installed myself. Probably more pricey if a garage installed for me. So it depends on what the car needs maintenance wise and whether you can work on it or need the garage to do it. I would check to see if there is any repair history available to see what has or has not been done. Good Luck!

Thanks NEO. It looks like I missed this one, though. I have time to stalk Craigslist for another good deal. I can do my own work and like the idea of working on an older model before having to do anything on my newer model. I need to do more research on the older XJs before I buy. I also need to convert my music studio back into a garage so I can park the '04 inside.

Had mine 8 years. Replaced fuel pump and a couple of door lock related items, that's it.

Jump in, start and drive away, and get to where I want to go.

Rust will be your biggest issue.

Once it begins you can rapidly end up with an XJ40 Lightweight.
