Hi and welcome to the forums! I too have a 93 XJ6 except it's BRG. Does yours have the tan interior? I always wanted a black/tan combo but mine looks pretty black once the sun starts to go down...lol. A few summers ago I put 17" chrome wheels on my car because I couldnt live with those 15" alloys that had a million little spokes around the outside (I assume those are the wheels on yours now?) Anyways I prefer chrome on older cars because they're more edgy and there's actual REAL chrome on older cars. It finishes off our XJ40s so nicely in my opinion since it matched our chrome door handles and mirrors too! An for me I think just the opposite for newer cars that chrome wheels dont look as good as alloy. But anyways I paid 1200 for mine with new tires and it doesnt ruin the ride at all. I wouldn't go bigger than 18" it just starts to ruin the car after that...check out my pics below, this is mine.

I have a set of 'Dimple' style X300 wheels on my XJ40, it's a pretty common upgrade. I got them off of Craigslist for $50 each, including Pirelli tires. Here's a photo of the style:
