Waiting for number 3

Waiting for number 3
Strange day today- woke up to house water heater thermostat stuck, scalding water out of the faucet then loud banging as cold water entered red-hot tank...thought the house was going to explode!
Anyway, plumbers and electricians arrived and set about fixing, (replaced tank was the solution) and I took off in the Jag for a couple of hours to give them some elbow room.
Just as I came back home, maybe 2 or 3 blocks away, I noticed STEAM puffing out of the front of the car ..
Checked the temp gauge and it was still sitting at N so I made a turtle paced run for the garage. The low rad level light came on about a block from the garage and the temp gauge was just to the right of N when I pulled in, so I don't think the engine overheated ...
When I popped the hood, I saw the distributor cap and all around that area was wet. At first I couldn't see any damage to the top hose but my neighbor who came by walking the dog looked over and spotted the problem right away - the top rad hose had come completely off the rad!
An easy fix though, just popped it back on, retightened the hose clamp and refilled the system.
Pretty weird though? Anyone had this happen before?
So water was my name today ..the wife said if water was money, i'd be rich - better go buy a lottery ticket tomorrow? Well maybe. Me, I'm just waiting for #3.......

Larry,
You had quite a day! They say bad things happen in threes, but hopefully you'll prove that's a myth.
On the original radiator on our '93, the lip or ridge on the end of the upper radiator hose fitting rusted off and the hose wanted to work its way off of the the fitting. I tried two hose clamps but that wasn't enough, so I used wire to tie the rearmost clamp to a brace behind the grille and that held for a few years until I replaced the radiator with a good salvaged one. You might check the hose fitting on your radiator to see if the hose fitting lip or ridge has disappeared as it did on ours.
Cheers,
Don

Added another hose clamp to the fitting and used iron wire to pull it forward to the body as Don suggested ..in the meantime, I've started a search for another radiator - I may investigate getting this one repaired too ..however...
If I'm reading the JCP site correctly, it seems that the rad for the 4 litre 94 XJ40 and the later X300 with the auto tranny have the same part number, mna4190db
XJ40:
Radiator and Hoses-4.0 Litre - Parts For XJ6 & XJ12 from (V)667829 to (V)708757 - Canada/USA | Jaguar Classic Parts UK
X300:
Radiator and Hoses-3.2/4.0 Litre - Parts For XJ Series from (V)720125 to (V)812255 (X300) | Jaguar Classic Parts UK
On JCP it shows three part numbers for the XJ40 with my Vin range:
mnb4190aa
mmd4190ca
mna4190db
I'm presuming the db suffix one is the superseded part number?
So reasonable to assume I can widen my search for a used one to the X300 range?
There's not much of a chance locating one from a '40 as the the '94MY XJ40 is a rare beast indeed in the local junkyards.

Larry,
I just searched MNA4190DB at jaguarmerriamparts.com and it is the correct latest superceded part number for the '94 4.0L XJ40 as well as a '96 X300 4.0L, whether N/A or S/C, so that will definitely give you more options.
The radiator for the X308 is MNC4190AE which presumably will not work in the earlier cars, but FYI I am using electric cooling fans from an X308 in our '93. I think I had to adapt the electrical connectors, but the fans and fan motors are the same.
In case they're helpful, below are links to photos of the radiator swap in our '93. Disconnecting the cooler lines took a little extra effort because the standard quick disconnect tools wouldn't fully release the fittings:
