Hi everyone, today has been a mixed up sort of day. I saw a BTR transmission with a dipstick in it, I really don't think they were doing something real smart when they removed the drain plug from the transmission, so I put one back into it.

I really thought that it was a stupid idea to get rid of the drain plug, and empty the transmission fluid all over the floor.

Here is part of the progress today, a temp sensor and drain plug are something I felt should not have been discarded. I am also putting the dipstick back into the transmission, however I forgot to take a picture.

I know the temp sensor was not part of the original things fitted to the transmission but I have put one there anyway.
I have the gauges there to be put into the car later on, I like a lot of instruments telling me what is going on with the vehicles mechanics.

Just a quick one today, I have a few jobs that need a bit of steady drilling and my drilling is a long way from being good, so I have bought this little beauty.

Hi everyone, all the stuff I wanted green has been done, the rest has been sent to the powder coaters to be done in gold seeing as the scheme for this vehicle is green and gold.

I also had to order some sway bar links as well, hopefully they will arrive soon, the powder coaters take around 3 weeks to do the jobs I ask them for, so it will be a bit slow for a while, the next part will be the wheel hubs and brakes, then I suppose it will be time to start the rear end for pretty much the same treatment, nothing much to change back there, only the wheels.

The turning circle, to my eye would be limited by the wheel base, the longer the wheel base the bigger the turning circle, unless you had four wheel steering like some mazda from the nineties, but that may be beyond even you clive. And why would you shorten the wheelbase ....if you aim to do mainly city driving in the old girl (i doubt that) you could have a case but shorter wheel base reduces comfort on the open road, and makes for a choppier ride. Why do I hate my little peugeot 206 except for a bit of toe, and trips round town oh and good economy..., because it bounces round is noisy small and unstable to be frank....and its been sooooo nice to get back in the '40 today and have a cruise round. Simply would not take the little car on a long trip.

Hello everyone, today was a fairly lazy day again, I decided to have a think about the rear fog lights and the side reflectors. I cut some plate and made it ready to be covered in a reflective tape, amber on the sides, and red on the rear.

I managed to find some led light bars to put in both the sides and the rear, they will be coming from USA so more waiting again.

Just have to hold on until the lights turn up and the reflective tape, so back to twiddling my thumbs I suppose.

Hi everyone just letting you all know that I will be out of action for a while, I have a rotator cuff injury, and it is very painfull and I am unable to work on anything for a few weeks. (Quite frustrating I can tell you.) My surgery however will not be for another 60 days, so things are going to be quite dead for a little while.

Clive,

I am very sorry to hear that you'll be out of action for awhile. I am truly enjoying your updates. Prayers for a successful repair and speedy recovery with as little discomfort as possible.

Cheers,

Don

Yeah I have an idea how your feel, I have tennis elbow right arm and a degenerative knee on the left, just have to work when I can and not overdo it. Your recovery period with physio and strengthening exercises may take months and after that you should never go as hard at it as you have previously, you can get stuff done but it takes longer.

Hello everyone. Things are still very slow right now with one arm out of action but trying to get the carpet in place is slowly working out. I am working on my passenger side for now as I have the drivers seat in place to sort a couple of other issues that need a little attention. I am a little reluctant to use adhesive right now because I worry if I get it wrong, well it is going to be stuck there.
Using some of the buttons that originally held the carpet in place, I could get an idea if things were looking right. The carpet appears to be stained in the pics, but they are not. Maybe just something to do with the flash.

I am thinking it looks good so far, just hope it keeps going that way. I am not sure why they cut the rear section in two, I ended up gluing some cloth tape on the back and running a small seem down them.

This is just at the rear door, this was the only piece that looked like it went in any particular spot to me. I get the idea that anything with a bit of an edging stitched into it needed to be exposed and covering up the un edged parts of the carpet.

I think I need to get the car outside for a bit so I can clean up a lot of stuff inside and outside the car, the mess is starting to get the better of me right now. I still have a couple of pieces that I still am not sure of their place just yet.

That small piece up the front I am not convinced it belongs there just yet. I will keep moving the parts around until I get what I think is the right place before I decide to lock it all down. It is not the only part that for some reason just doesn't look right where it is.

I think a part of the wiring to the fuse holder is not quite in the right spot on this side of the car. I will unscrew it next weekend and see if I can make it look right. This is about all for me right now, I will try to keep you posted.

Hi everyone, trying to work one handed is given me a few challenges. I managed to track down a fairly good dash for the car, it needed a bit of glue and a couple of screws to hold it all together again. Other than that it seemed in fairly good condition.

Just need to remember where all these wires went, and a couple of braces went in there somewhere. Anyway I managed to get it all screwed into place.

The other good thing was I didn't need to paint any of it because it was the same colour the original dash was, so good score all around. The other thing I did was fit a couple of gauges into the car, I like lots of gauges.

This little guy is up with the sunroof controls, I couldn't figure out where else to put it. I then sat a pod for another 4 on the dash, not 100% sure where to put the rest.

I will probably be pottering around getting all the wiring put back to where it belongs, and the fitting the rest of the dash parts as well. That will probably do me for the moment.

I imagine youve figured it out already, I think that small bit of carpet you had up front 2 posts prior belongs behind the rear door facing the side of the rear seat. Its almost completely invisible.

Hello everyone, another slow day today, I am trying to get it all sorted out and ready to fight my way through the spaghetti. Anyway I did give everything a bit of a clean, I even managed to find some bracing and where to put it. I was pleased about that.

It doesn't look like there is a lot of wiring her just yet.

I have put the floor console in now and both braces have been fitted to their spots and so far one of the relays have been put back onto the Right brace.

Floor console is in place, and for the most part has been all screwed down, but I seem to have lost a couple of wires. I will probably have to undo a few screws and see if I have covered them up accidently.

Glovebox framework is now in place and time draws closer to doing the great wire chase.

Now I have to find where I have put the part that goes into this mount. I have seen it somewhere, but the memory is certainly not working with me right now.

Still got a bit of a wire hunt to continue in here now, I am confident things will work out in the end.

It has a metal plate attached to it, I would assume it is some sort of heat sink.

It might even be a metal box, I really don't know, so any help would be great.

This is its mounting plate.

Hi Clive,

I don't know if this will be helpful, since it's from our '93 LHD XJ40, but just in case it helps. I'm sure you know what all these modules do, but I'm including the descriptions from my old Jag-Lovers photo album for the benefit of future readers who may not know:

1: HVAC Control Module

2: Relay Module H (Yellow connector: side lights positive relay; auxiliary side lights relay; cigar lighter relay)

3: Relay Module F (Red connector): interior lights relay; door guard lights relay; right & left windshield heater relays)

4: Speed Control/Cruise Control Electronic Control Module

5: Relay Module G (Blue Connector: Door Unlock Relay; Door Lock Relay; Mirror Heaters Relay)

6: Central Processing Unit (CPU) (The Main Switchboard of the XJ40, the CPU handles many safety, warning, and housekeeping functions, from turn signals and windshield wiper logic, to power windows and central power door lock synchronization)

7: HVAC Blower Motor/Fan Housing

8: Vacuum actuator solenoid for HVAC Blower Fan recirculation

9: Transmission Control Module (TCM)

10: Engine Control Module (controls fuel injector pulse duration, ignition timing angle, idle speed, EGR, etc. Yellow connector is for Low Power circuit board (sensor and interface inputs; Blue connector is for High Power circuit board (fuel injector drive, relay activation, and other outputs)

Cheers,

Don

Not quite the same layout as our RHD vehicles but as I look through the other modules there I think I still have a couple of parts missing, so it is a big help tom in that regard. Mine is a 1988 model and it does have a few things different.

This is what is mounted under our 1988 glovebox. The part I have been looking for has a few different names that I can see. Some have called it a climate control interface.

Hello everyone, I have returned, been in poor health for a while now, but I am feeling much better now, nothing much has been done for the time I have been away, but I started again today and one of the things I really needed to do was to fit a wrong radiator into the right place. I did get it from some Chinese seller quite some time ago, and the advert indicated it would fit my vehicle so I bought it.hehehe just to find there was no way that particular radiator was going into the car without a bit of work.
As you can see from the top of the radiator it is quite a bit bigger.

I used the original lower support, just had to redrill the 2 holes for the locator pins to go into, then using a bit of eva foam, I gave the radiatora bit of support. I did the same at the top.

It looks like I may be able to fit the shroud, just need to know what Jaguar it is actually for. I have an idea it is for an XJS.
