I recently bought a XJ40 Sovereign, originally sold in Dubai (Arabian spec) in 1992.
As I'm getting to know the car, I noticed two unusual switches, one in the centre console storage compartment and one on top of the steering column.
I have absolutely no clue what they're for, as they don't do anything as far as I can notice.
It's possible they were disconected since.
I'm just extremely curious what they were initially intended for.
Does anyone have information on custom switches that were a popular mod to the XJ40's back in the days?
I think the one in the console is the alarm switch, on the column could be driving lights? I would remove the lower cowl and see where that wire goes. Good luck.
Just as I'm digging through the information that came with the car, I stumbled upon a booklet concerning the alarm system.
It's indeed an override for the alarm, Jaguar neatly calls the 'valet switch'.
It looks strangely aftermarket...
