xj6 won't start
Good morning,
Looking for some trouble shooting help. I have a 87 xj6. Its been sitting a few years. Was not starting when I purchased it and I am now trying to get it going. Dealer I bought it from said it was staring when he got it then it would not start. Said something about maybe an alarm system?????? I have not noticed any thing extra under the hood. 1. question.
I had to change out the ignition switch. It went from him probably trying to start it.
They had pulled the air system apart. I change the flow meter from a car thatI know was running. Still nothing.
I checked distributor cap, put in new rotor, spark plugs and wires.
I checked out the coil and distributor. Both sending and getting spark.
Definately getting fuel to spark plugs.
So this is what it does. It cranks and with in a nano second tries to catch but then just goes to cranking. It then just cranks if I try again and you feel like it just is flooding at any more attemps. If I let it sit then it does the same thing all over again.
Sort of like when a sneeze almost comes and you just about sneeze but no, [sm=sigh.gif]it subsides and then its a while before it tries again.
Haynes book said alot of possible faulty things could be going on.
It tells me how to check the temp sensors, auxillary air, cold start system.
The tank has 5 gals each, I presume fuel pump working because fuel is up in the mane line to the rail.
I can check fuel filter.
How do I check the pressure regulator?
How do I check for vapour locks in the fuel rail?
Any other info or suggestions are welcome. I will be working on it again monday and can check back to see if anyone answered on Saturday. I use the library computors.
thanks for reading
