Default starting and running problems

Hello i just bought a 91 xj6 sovereign. When i bought it ran. Its been sitting for about 6 months now and got it started but has no power when you give it gas. It gave a code for fuel which was either to rich or lean so i replaced the fuel pump. That didnt work! It has a very strong odor of gas but will not start. I am going to do a simple tune up new plugs, wires, distruberter cap,and rotor. What else might cause it to do that.

thanks for that info on the codes did a simple tune up and it starts and runs now idles great all the way till it is completely warmed up then give it gas and it wants to die you can feather the gas and try and keep it running but adventually it dies. Starts right back up idles fine for a minute the starts to die again. There is no code's to read so i am stumped on it.

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see what's up.

Just thinking out loud. What about a crack in the air intake bellows. Wouldn't a large air leak cause this same thing? Or, a stepper motor stuck wide open? Just ideas.

ok new post here i did some test on it which envole checking the maf and the ecs. the maf checks out with 2 volts for a simulated load but only has 2 volts for the ref volt to ecu. the ecs is checking aroun 416 ohms at normal running engine temp. so my question is do both of them need replaced or are they within working tolerence. because the ref voltage is suppose to be 5 and ohms is suppose to be from 200 to 350 ohms. And i was off on my descripsion of what is the problem. idles fine give it gas fast nothing just stalls. give it gas slowly and it reves up fine.
