XJ81 initial brake check takes too long!
Hi,
I have another issue with my Jag: Since I had a workshop replace a brake hose and bleed the system the initial brake system startup check takes way longer than before. I tried to bleed it again following the procedure described in the workshop manual but that seems to have made it even worse, it now takes up to 20 seconds (estimate) after a cold start until the ABS and brake indicator lights extinguish (originally it were maybe 5 seconds). After that it's fine, even after a break there is no extended check time and the brakes also seem to work normally.
My suspicion is that there is still air in the brake system or even in the ABS unit so the brake pump takes longer to build pressure. Should I be worried and go to a specialized Jaguar workshop and have the brake system bleeded correctly or is that something I can do on my own? Or is everything fine as long as the ABS and brake indicator lights finally extinguish?
Thanks!

If the nitrogen sphere loses its charge, the initial check will take longer. It could have gone bad while your shop was bleeding the brakes from being disturbed. I have one going bad and it takes a good 30 seconds for the light to go out.
In the meantime I have read about this, seems to be common issue nowadays. I measured the time and it were in fact 26 seconds until the lights extinguished.
I have heard about different ways of testing whether the accumulator is still ok by pressing the brake pedal several times, but I cannot find any such procedure in the workshop manual. Pumping the pedal 10-15 times doesn't give me any fault, instead I hear the pump operating again.
New accumulators are available, but they are way too expensive to just give it a shot and replace it.
