Default 1972 xj6 US car. moaning coming from this thing?

Hello all,

Seeing it I can just eliminate a part on the intake side of a stromberg carbed car as its acting up.

Excuse the scribble but the gold thing started to make heaps of noise today.

Just like a strangled bagpipe!

Especially at idle, seems to dissipate upon acceleration.

It is affecting throttle response a bit, so I am assuming this has something to do with an air/vacuum leak

I have already done away with the smog pump and air injection system.

Can I just plug the hose on the black piece that this device is connected to and call it a day?

PCV? EGR? ??????

She is my daily driver, so any quick relies will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

He, he!! You have a whistle, a musical device.

I saw a neat piece on TV, Sunday. A visiting craftsman at a
flutist studio. A lovely lady instructing a gentle tattooed big guy!!

From a pair of sections of Bamboo, they created flutes. A whistle
nearest the lips, two holes! A series down pipe to be covered.
Adjusts the air column to create the notes. Dore, mi, so, etc!

Very instructive. The same principle in more complex woodwinds.

To the point, your engine will run just fine sans EGR. But, of the
emsion it is not all that bad. Allows more advanced timing by cooling the combustion...

Fix it or dump it, each a viable option.

Hello Carl,

I should put some holes in the hose and play a tune!

I figured it was a EGR valve I just got befuddled by the exhaust aspect of it.

many thanks for the reply.

Hose had split on both ends,
I'll get some proper 5/8" hose later today.
