Good to be back again !... motivated by my recently acquired 75 XJ12C !
however, this even more recently acquired 74 XJ12L has me stumped ( sat for about 10 years )
It simply WILL NOT run on the carburetors.
ALL variables ( fuel quality / delivery, vacuum, ignition efficiency ) dealt with.
By introducing fuel directly into the intake manifold plenum, I HAVE CONFIRMED that the engine does run, and actually sounds pretty good.
Seems that all the carburetors do not allow any fuel whatsoever, through their metering system(s), and into the manifold / engine.
I have been doing carburetors, tuning race engines, ect, for 45 years, so I should have an idea what I'm doing !....
BUT...
I have never worked with these side draft style carbs before.
Hoping somebody can guide me on what to do to make these Stromberg / Zenith carburetors work again.
you can download pdf files on those carbs from my library for free. listed under stromberg, > https://www.jaguar-wiring-schematics...fo%20pages.htm
they have a cold start system but you can do a little bush mechanics, you can wedge the pistons up about 1/2 inch or more & watch for fuel coming up the main jet while cranking, as i said - bush mechanics - i'm guessing you've confirmed fuel in the carbs...........
Thanks, Tom... Yes, I had tried just that... propped up the "plungers".
No fuel flow.
A few years ago, some clown broke the steering wheel shaft at the hub. I'm just about to install a new one, and get the steering wheel back on.
maybe that will help
