Default 1979 xj-6L cutting out

Bought yesterday while driving home after about 2 hours car started shuttering around 55 tach was moving all over. Fluid levels look good car not running hot . In excellent condition for its age . Next day car starts and runs good but when you drive it cuts out under acceleration and also died a couple times . Also during all of this the throttle got stuck open . Got it home it runs and idle good still cutting out any ideas !!!!

My first inclination would be to address the sticking Throttle issue. Would not want that on a highway! May just need a lube job. If i's fine when started, perhaps it's a heat related issue on the cable. I would pay a great deal of attention to that cable. If it starts from cold and starts cutting out once warmed up, I would suspect the coil, or the wiring to the coil, or the ignition/injection grounds located on the RH side of the engine at the rear of the intake manifold. Just my two cents.

Default Update on the 79

The second tank ended up having bad gas . I cleared the fuel line changed the fuel filter plugs and the coil . Took on a short drive today and I made it home 🍾. Still waiting on a new throttle cable. Also the fuel filter was under the air cleaner
