1984 xj6 radio
i recently bought a 1984 jaguar xj6. the radio didn’t work when i bought it and i can’t seem to find any fuses that go to it. i believe there’s an inline fuse and possibly a 20amp fuse too? can someone please help me find these
The 20A inline fuse is in a brown wire running along the right side of the transmission hump, straight down from the dash and behind the left hand kick panel in passenger foot well (LHD cars).
The 2A inline fuse is in a red wire that runs on the upper left side of the transmission hump under the center console. I believe it can be reached by removing the "ski slope" and plate surrounding the shift lever.
The must-have bible for working on the electrics in these cars is called S57 and can be downloaded from the website of a fellow member, Jose. I believe it's free.

Thanks LT1.
my 1984 has no 20 amp radio fuse. The radio power connections and fuses are located behind the panel with the floor vent, to the right of the emergency brake handle, driver's side, Left Hand Drive car.
there is a yellow wire with a fuse holder, and a red wire with a fuse holder. They are a 3 amp fuse and a 5 amp fuse. One is for ignition power, the other for the radio memory power.
*this assumes the radio is an original Jaguar radio installation, not aftermarket.
yes all the Series 3 XJ-6 literature is free to open online or download in .pdf files at my website.

I own an 84 Jag XJ6 Vanden Plas. There is an inline fuse (I can tell you with 100% certainty) on a Red Wire underneath the console on the left side underneath the left ash tray. IIRC it is either a 1A or 2A.

Jose, i found three fuses, one to the right of the e-break, two underneath the left ashtray. the one to the right of the e-break was a 3amp, no luck changing that out. the other two were 30 and 35 amp. am i possibly missing one? (radio is stock btw) would it be easier to just remove the radio and test it with a multimeter?

I do not think the fuses under the ashtray/ console panel are related to the radio. One must be for the driver's seat motor (35 amp), The other one could be for the cigarette lighter. Not sure. Mine only has one fused wire under the left ashtray.
Test by raising the driver's seat up down with ignition switch ON, then remove the 35 amp fuse and test the seat motor again.
same with cigarrette lighter but it has constant power without ignition switch.
If the radio is stock, the radio harness must be too.
did you confirm the red and yellow fused wires? They are normally on the left vent panel per the illustration above. If not, they could be behind the radio. Only solution is to pull the radio.

20a inline fuse on brown wire just below vent.
20a fuse just visible extreme right, mid-picture. 3a fuse on red wire bottom, left of center.
Radio relay and suppressor just below shifter cable.
Here are a couple of pictures of the wiring under my console/radio. Pic #3 shows the connector on the radio relay plus the yellow wire to/from the suppressor (simple black box). These all show as correct in S57. I changed the original Lucas fuses (20a and 3a) to AGC 10a and 1a respectively. From what I've read, this seems about the right ratio. Nothing has been put back together and tested yet, I'm just hoping the AGC size is right.

well my cigarette lighter works now, (per my extremely burnt right index finger) but no radio fuses. i figured i would just pull the radio out, but no youtube videos for that. how do i get it out ? just pry it out from each side ?
no prying. It is screwed in place with 4 plastic rivets or if it has been removed before, with screws where the rivets were.
I recommend you follow the steps in the factory service manual, otherwise you might damage parts that are difficult to find. Removing the radio means removing a bunch of other console sections, wiring, and panels. And lots of patience.
if you don't have the factory service manual sections, download them from my website:
