Default 1985 vanden plas wiring

I just got a 1985 valen plas jag that was in a barn for 2 years. There where a couple rats living in it at the time. No more rats but I dont have turn signals. The 4 ways work and blink fine but when using the turn signal switch it dose nothing. Dont know much on the wiring systems but I switched the flsshers with the 4 ways and it worked fine. Also the head lights will work on one side and not the other but when you turn the high beams on they all work. Not sure if they are the same wires or not. Any help will be appreciated.

Rats chew through wiring to keep their teeth in order; sure your wiring is OK ?

I dont see any wires that are chewed. I see alot of rat turds every where but all the wires are in order. I was wondering if some one knew what wires aee for them and where to trace them to.

Go to the "How To" sticky thread at the top of this section....where you'll find the "S57" wiring guide. It'll show you the wiring very clearly.

Headlights:

Since all four operate on high beam (that is, the two inboard lights) and the "high beam" element of the outboard lights I'm inclined to say you have one outboard lamp where the "lo beam" element is burned out. So you might wanna try changing that bulb.

More reading on headlights:
Headlamp Circuit Checklist

Signals:
Since all the appropriate lights work when the 4-way hazard flashers are used we know the flasher unit and everything downstream of the signal switch is OK.

The turn signal switch gets power *from* the 4-way flasher switch. There's a fault with that part of the circuit ....or the signal switch itself is faulty.

Sometimes exercising the hazard switch multiple times....don;t get rough with it.....will clean the internal contacts and restore power to the turn signal switch. Worth a try.

Cheers
DD

Try cleaning the fuse box contacts (underneath it, have to unbolt it) for the headlights. I had that issue but cleaning the contacts solved it. While your there might as well go around and clean all grounds to shiny metal. For the turn signals, try bypassing the hazard switch. Disconnect the green/pink wire and green wire from the switch and connect them together. Blinkers should work

Unbolting the fuse box and working from there fixed a similar issue for me where the right high beam wasn't working. I also sprayed fuse box w electrical spray. All good now. Try messing with the stuff there you might find an easy solution. Cheers
