where is the ecu on a 85 xj 12
Hey everyone my grandfather owns a 1985 xj12 vander plas edition. The car has had quite the history of floods and bad mechanics. I was going through the wire harness and I have found random wires leadimg to no where connector unconected with nowhere to connect too. Part of going through the harness lead me underneth the passengers side dash where I came across a green box that had a four wire connector connected and also a single wire connector. My question is this the ECU? The box says turbo power by BAE. Could this be after market??
When you remove the trim panel in the trunk, you will see a few 'things electrical' mounted on the rear firewall. The ECU is mounted on a slide-in typoe bracket, and is easy to remove once the connection is taken off. On V12s there is also a tube from the inlet manifold to allow the ECU to detect manifold pressure. I think the system is Lucas-Bosch D-Jetronic. It was L-Jetronic on the sixes.
The later 5.3 Liter V12 engine management is designated P-Jetronic when the manifold pressure hose is connected to the ECU. The D-Jetronic was the earlier version and had a separate manifold pressure sensor in the engine compartment.

Then if the ECU isnt on the passengers side under the dash what would be, cause its a green box, heres a pic of it
I dunno what it is but it certainly doesn't look like an original Jaguar item. More specifically, the "Turbo Power" label strongly suggests some sort of add-on gizmo.

God only knows what that box is, but its certainly not a Jaguar original. I suggest you track the wires back to see what they are connected to. I would that thought a 5.3 litre V12 is more than adequate to power a car; it doesn't really need low rent stuff like this.

So almost three years later and I am starting to get interested in the jag again. Has anyone ever seen something like it?
Since the picture disappeared

I did crack the box open and on the chip board inside is says Airteck Ind '84. I will post a picture of the internals sometime tonight.

Yeah, these gizmos have been cooked up by many. Usually mess with spark advance curves and some with mixture mapping as well. The original ECU's are designed for a broad spread of driving use. These narrow the field with some performance boost in places.
My vote would be to track down the leads and get the unit outta there. Hopefully it is spliced in so that restoration is not a nightmare.
My car is not a 12, but, it's ECU was in the boot.
