Default 1985 XJ6 VDP locked steer

I have another 85 XJ6 VDP which I bought with no key, now I have realized the steering is locked and can not be turned to any side.

Is there any way to unlock the steering without a key to pull it to a safe parking place before a get locksmith to cut a key for me?

thanks for your help

Mike

Yes, I think. In short, remove the igntion lock assembly. Bunch of little screws, two panels, a bezel and then the tricky breakaway screws. fiddly, but doable.

Decades ago, I was in a park lot. I busted the key off in the lock. Luckly me., switch in run!! I jumpoed th atarter,. Engine fired Just a few blocks to the locksmith. Boss put an apprentice on it. Sturcy drill with a diamond tip hole saw bit. It ate the locking bezel and freed the tumbler assembly. IHc not a popular truck in the area . but, the boss, an experinced guy determined that a AN AMc cylinder would do it. it dsi Just finme.
