Default 72 S1 XJ6 intermittent running

Hello all,

drove out to a friend in Sylmar today and heard a bang.

Popped open the hood to find my power steering pump pulley lodged between the lower radiator hose and the radiator!

After finding a lug nut to be the only available fastener in a 9/16X18 dimension the minor struggle to get the belt back on ensued.

Once all that got sorted, I drove about 5 miles on the freeway without issue and then all of a sudden the car starts cutting out.

Im typing this as wait for the AAA for a tow, The car will start ocassionally but will only stay running if I keep her above 1500 rpm, she will then cut out again?

just tried her again and she starts right up and then cuts out again.

any suggestion will be helpful

thanks

the other Carl

Solved. One of the better words in the lexicon.

Kudos on the ingenuity of the Ps fix with a lug nut. I'd never have thought of that one,

Used to live not far from Sylmar. Sepulveda, Mission Hills, Granada Hills.
One of my bosses at work there, was a Carl!!

lug nut

fixed

I replaced the fuel pump with a known working one and still have the problem, has anyone else had this issue?

Its sucking in air from somewhere between the pump and the tank, no visible leaks or fumes.

Default Solved!

So in the end I had to replace the smiths petroflex hose with some newer gates material.

the old hoses didn't have any noticeable leaks when ai blew into them, but 2 were very leaky when I pulled a vacuum in them.

Replaced most of the clamps with Swedish ABA clamps. And I'm good to go there.

Kept the original clamps here

i also replaced the filter with probably the best one I've found yet.

XK's spring to much tension, motorcars ltd wrong gasket size, SNG Barrett worked the best.

i still am having a slight lead around the filter bowl and at the threads at the filter housing, do I need to ask David Bodger if he has a spare? I'm wondering if I mmmmmmmm

Finally see a photo of the bracket at an angle and the filter plumb. Any ideas why?
