'86 XJ6 AC Rebuild: Missing SH Switch
After studying why my car does not seem to have a superheat switch, seems to me that, if this were removed or left off during a previous compressor replacement (mine has been replaced at some time before me), it would not leave a dangling harness. Am I correct in thinking that it simply connects between the clutch connection on the compressor and the car harness plug, and if it were left out, the harness just plugs directly to the clutch pigtail?
I want to get it back together as correctly as practical, so if I buy a superheat switch, won't I be back in business, so to speak?

The easiest "Fix", if your new compressor is compatible with one, is to covert to an "HSLP" switch. High Side Low Pressure. Less wiring with this set-up.
Using a superheat switch also means using the three terminal "thermal fuse". A bit more wiring but by no means difficult. It's all shown in the "S57" wiring guide
