hi i have a 1987 jaguar xj6 4.2 liter the car ran fine i shut it off and the next day it would not start no spark i replaced the coil the ignition amplifier and the magnetic pick up in the dist and still no spark i tested ignition switch it reads good also no fuel i jumped the fuel pump relay and it works but when i turn the key it wont come on

 

Run a jumper wire from the battery "+" post to the coil "+" post and see if you get spark.

How's the wiring to the coil? It often breaks from heat.

For the record, the fuel pump will not operate by simply turning the key "on". It should operate with the engine cranking...does it? (Trick: put the gearshift in "D" and turn the key to "start". You should hear the fuel pump run)

Also, remove the air filter housing and push open the the air flap at the front of the air flow meter, igntion key on. The pump should operate. Does it?

And the EFI relies on the coil pulse to time the injectors, so no spark = no fuel injection.
