Advice on rebuilding IRS
Hi all have been rebuilding irs on my series 1 xj6 and have come to a speed bump so to say. Fitting new discs and when i took the old ones off there was 5 shims between the disc and output flange . New discs rub when replaced so i removed the shims and disc is central to brake calipers now. Brake discs must differ in size the new ones are solid from Jagdaim. Question is do i fit the shims between the disc and drive shafts or leave them out because of the difference in thickness of the discs ?.
Note both sides where the same when stripped down and only one shim on passenger side between disc and drive shaft.
The 5 shims together measure 2.6mm
The one shim measures .38mm
Cheers Howie.
Here are some photos of the shims, 5 on the left and the single 1 on the right if this helps they are different
.

Put the shims remaining between the rotor and the halfshaft, thus maintaining the wheel camber as it was.
Rotors do vary by manufacturer, and as long as they are central in the caliper, ALL GOOD, and the number of shims in total per side are maintained.

Thanks Grant,
Was thinking that but because the disc differance thought i could be adding instead of keeping it the same. Will carry on once i finish my 4 days on.
Cheers Howie

Hi All again another question about wheel bearing adjustment this time what does everybody do , go through the whole process of using 150 thou spacer to start and work out the right spacer , or just use the existing one in the rear hub .
Cheers Howie.

Thanks again Grant, was going that way was talking to jagdaim this afternoon and they said the same just use existing spacer as new ones are about 30.00 dollars each !!. You just see so much info some times on google and books its a overload sometimes, should just go with my gut feeling LOL.
Cheers Howie

I would be inclined to measure the old and new rotors to see if there is a difference in the overall thickness of the mating flange, if the new rotor is thicker then you may not need to add the spacers as these set the camber of the rear wheels.
