Default Ain't masking fun?

I have seen quite a few different styles of wheel on the XJ Series, none that I think suit the car more than the chromed steel wheels with blacked out slots.

I don't have the chromed wheels but have decided to try and emulate the effect.

I now think that the originals must have been hand painted, because the masking job takes a lot of time and tape.

Painting steel wheel slots.

Before painting with dress rims and hubcap.

I will update results shortly. 8-)

I reckon you be spot on.

Our S2 XJ12 had the chrome wheels, with the Black Outs.

They were 100% had painted.

Back then I had 2 eyes that worked well, and there is NO WAY they were a spray on finish, there was NO defining edge.

Have fun with that masking.

Rosie approves of my work.

Not immaculate, but gives the desired spoke effect.

Freshly painted wheel slots.

Lady Mable has her front left wheel in the air, hence the low stance.

Now, to just repeat three more times.

I admire your patience. I tried to do the same, but the end result looked awful so I gave up.

OEM hand-painted in the factory? A job like that would drive you nuts!

lol.
Some of the things that you come across in life and think to yourself, "OMG! It was somebody's job to make that."

"I should've stuck with painting Jaguar wheels."

Well its clearly a subjective opinion but to me the wheels don't compliment the car at all.
