Default American to Euro bumper swap

Im sure many on the forum have done this. My question, will a 1968 euro bumper fit on a 1976 xj6c?

Not really,

FRONT: You'd need many new items... hood hinges and the Series 1 ('68) hood, fenders, lower valiance and bumper location are all different on the series 2 ('76)

REAR: You'd need to cut off the rear bumper shock recievers and weld on a stud. Not really a big deal. How ever series 1 bumper has a upward facing lamp to illuminate the license place. Series 2 has the lamp in the trunk finisher.

I've done a euro conversion on my coupe, you need Series 2 bumpers, series 2 euro hood hinges, series 2 Euro lower grill and valiance. Series 2 Euro bumpers are reproduced by a company in Vietnam, they ship'em right to you in a big box. The same one's can be found on Ebay, but cheaper if you lookup the company and call Vietnam direct.

Hello ICS, I am considering going with the Group Harrington Series 2 bumpers on a 1984
Jaguar VDP that I am almost done with swapping a 1995 AJ16 XJR supercharged engine into. I am not really bothered by difference in the shape of the lower grille or what I have to do for turn signals, It is what to do for the hood hinges so as not to foul the new bumpers? From what I have been able to find out is that I need euro styled series 2 hood hinges to avoid this condition. Is there any modification that can be done to the existing hood hinges so avoid chasing down another set of hood hinges?
Your input would be greatly appreciated please.

Thank you.

XJR AJ16 swap sounds like a great swap. Power, smoothness and 4 forward gears.

At the time I did my conversion, I remember that the series 3 hood hinge could have been modified however it wasn't worth my time because Euro Series 2 hinges were still available. You may still be able to find them on ebay.co.uk or from Jeremy at Paul's Jaguar.

For turn signals I welded up the hole in the fender, drilled a new smaller hole and use the side markers lamps as turn signals. To me it looks great as the OE turn signals are a bit over bearing. For the lower grill, at the time I was able to find one easily. On another car I'm doing now I'm going with no lower grill and going to make a roll pan for a cleaner look and improved aero.

Default Euro hood hinge question

I am new to the board and Jaguar. I am trying to convert a newly acquired 1976 XJ12L to euro bumpers. I understand the hood hinges need to be changed. I am having a hard time finding them. Does anyone have a picture showing the differences between the two hinges? I have been able to find a set outer hinge sections (the section from the pivot to the hood). Is the inner section that bolts to the frame the same? I assume the curve of the U-shaped section of the hinge is a bit deeper to clear the closer mounted bumper. Thanks

Sorry I don't have anything to offer but a idea. What if the two outer blades were mounted to the fenders, And the center section moved with the lower section of the hood
while opening and closing. That is as far as I got.

The CD rom based shop manual for series 1 & II cars has good parts images of all the different region (ie UK, Europe, USFederal etc) bumper fitting types in exploded diagrams, that helps to demystify this...

Default SNG Barratt

I bought them from SNG Barrat, They still seem to have them. C39822, C39823

You will also need the foam gaskets from them. JS737 if I recall, but verify.

Default Left Side Parts

Finding out while RH parts are readily available & priced accordingly, LH or "Ditch" side parts are hard to find & outragiously priced. The excuse given of course is that all LH parts are corroded beyond repair. Interesting business model, since when doing Euro conversions you need both.

Default Turn Signals

The really nice Amber/ Clear combo units are beautiful & expensive. Was able to find a pair of used full Amber units out of Germany but took some searching.

See eBay. I just had a set delivered out of Vietnam for my S2 XJ6C. Ordered on Oct 18, in my garage on the 23rd. Price varies !

You are talking about the bumpers not hinges correct? What is the quality like?

Default Euro Bumpers

Hate to admit it, but haven't even opened the bumper package yet. Will be doing that today. This is a spring project and I have spent weeks gathering parts. Made mistakes along the way but should be in good shape. The hinges for my S2 came from Pauls Jaguar. Jeremy is a great help, but the cost of the LH is high enough that the hinges cost as much as the bumpers. The hinges need clean up & paint but are in good shape. Jag Specialties hinges are built from scratch, still expensive.
