Default Any idea why fuel line would be like this?

Hi guys,
1973 XJ12, seems to have had a bypass conducted on one of the fuel cut off solenoids in the trunk. Any idea why this would have been done?

Car runs great from either tank as far as I can tell, although there is a smell of gas in the trunk that I’m trying to tackle.

Cheers!

I am not familiar with the fuel system shown in your pics, but if you don't have any leaks or seeps, changing to a non-permeable hose will go a long way in reducing the smell. After reading suggestions here on the Forum, I replaced most of mine and the smell is almost non-existent. I couldn't find the smaller hoses and did not replace them. Here's a picture of what I used from our local marine store (West Marine. Should be a national chain).

There is a product known as Castle Leak tracing powder that is available from www.castlepackspower.com. phone-1-800-876-0222. part# 1619. Clean and air dry area. Spray on like the old time deodorant. The white area's are good if they stay dry, Any moist area's are your suspect . Can't fix Jaguar's with out it. You might put a vent hose on that small fitting on pump and the fuel hose that LT1 recommends is a definite must.

Thank you

Thanks, Larry, great input! I had a good look for that powder but couldn’t find it in stock anywhere in the US. Any ideas, do I need to phone the main company number?

Also, could you help me a little with your vent hose suggestion - I see where to connect it on the pump, but where would you exit it?

TIA

Thanks Dave, I am sure that will
make a big difference with all the ethanol in the fuel nowadays! I am on it!

Hello Norfolk, Just went on their website and they still have available. www.castlepackspower.com. phone # 1-800-876-0222. I got the part # wrong, C1619. Good Luck. On the fuel pump there is a small barbed fitting that needs a small hose that vents to the outside of the trunk somewhere.
