Default before pump filter S1

Will a filter between tank and pump work on a s1 carby car? Will the pump suck the petrol through?

Also taking the sump plug out of the bottom of the fuel tank and the filter is right there inside, how do you/can you get the filter out to clean it?

Mick

I think the filter is part of the drain bolt at the bottom of the tank, when you remove the bolt, the mesh filter is attached to it. Looks like the picture below as in my '65 S type. They rarely get clogged but who knows.

I know some people add another filter but I don't know where.

Thanks for the pic. My sump plug does not have a filter such as this and the parts list from sg barrett doesnt show it for a series one. Not to worry.

My fuel pumps petrol lines run to a t piece then off to the engine bay...shouldnt I have a valve in there to control which tank the petrol feeds from?

If I do need one, anyone know where I could get it?

Mick

There should be a fairly small plug used to drain out fuel, and this screws into the much larger plug which has a gauze filter on it. At least that is what my Series 3 had, and I don't think earlier cars are any different. There should be another filter downline of the pump, probably in the engine compartment.

Default You can see into the tank from the sender hole

Remove the rear tire on the side you want to examine, Remove the four
screws holding on the sender cover in the rear of the wheel well.

Tap the brass ring off the sender, remove the two wires and the sender
will pull out. You can then use a flashlight to see the whole inside of
the tank(s).

Be sure to use a new sender gasket when re-installing. You can see the
plug from this position and any gunk in the tank(s).

Confirm that the float is not holding any gas and clean off the contacts
on the sender at this time.

Confirm with a meter that you have 20-220 ohms over the full cycle of
the sender arm.
