Default Bonnet Release Springs for UK Cars

I've had the same problem with my car that many others have. The original bonnet latch springs are too powerful and as age weakens the release catches we suffer from the bonnet pinging open when we drive over bumps. Less dangerous but irritating is the horrible clang when we release the bonnet manually.

I'd read of US forum members fixing this with replacement springs but I struggled to source them with the rights specs locally. To the rescue comes an incredibly generous forum member, Bill @slofut from Georgia who sent me three pairs of springs (plus a couple of lovely other items) and wouldn't accept any payment. Thanks Bill!

You can see the results at
.

I now have two spare sets of springs so, in the spirit of Bill's generosity, I will share them to other UK members FOC. Just PM me with your details and I'll send them out. First come, first served.

Excellent video Mark! Maybe make another closing the bonnet too, it's so much more graceful with the lighter springs. I grab my bonnet by the nose with the hood about a foot open and a gentle nudge closes it nicely, as it should have been all along. It just occurred to me that those may be the same springs as on the Tr6, I gotta go check! It's bonnet is just as noisy and ungraceful. So glad they worked out well for you and thanks for the cool music!
Bill

Update... At first glance the single spring on the Tr6 may be a tiny bit smaller in diameter than the jag spring, but surely looks very thick and stronger than it needs to be, some experimenting is in order.
