Default Bumper rust spots / correct products

Newbie here. Purchased 1987 xj6 recently. Chrome bumper has very small rust spots (really more like dots). What’s the best way for a novice to remove? Also, best recommendation for wax brands? Thank you!!

try making a wad of aluminum foil and rubbing it on the rust.

I've been using Meguiar's Gold Liquid Carnauba for the past three years and been quite happy with it although I did just pick up a tin of their paste wax just to compare the two.

Thanks both! I’ll look up the wax to be sure. Question on the aluminum foil - I’ve read to dip it in Coca Cola first? Anyone have an opinion on that?

Phosphoric acid is a rust converter, also consider taking the chrome off and putting it in a bath of Evaporust. That is a non-toxic rust converter. It's not fast, depending on the depth of the rust it might take several days, but it does work well. I particularly like it for getting into crevices. I found a pair of vicegrips in a farm truck at the junkyard. Very badly rusted and wouldn't open, but a week of sitting in evaporust had them operating like new.

Evaporust works best when warm, ideally above 20°C, and also don't use it in open trays; keep it covered. I tend to put things in large ziplock bags with some of the fluid inside and keep the rusty parts submerged. Left open it seems to go gummy and doesn't last as long.

never heard of that. I know it can work on surface rust as you describe.
