Default A:C Blower - makes a racket!

Hello

having an issue with A/C fan on 1987 XJ-6. When the fan is on past the lowest speed, it makes a ton of noise. Repair person told me it needs to be replaced but cannot find the part.

any ideas?

Probably leaves in the fan, pretty simple to drop the fan, clean out the leaves and don't park outside under the trees.

unfortunately I’m sure it’s not leaves making the noise - we did inspect it. A/C is blowing cold, thank goodness.

inside the fan blower case under the dash, there are plastic pins that hold metal rods together. These rods open or close the fresh air or recirculate flaps.
The plastic pins deteriorate and break causing the rods to flop all over inside the fan case.
Removing the blower case is a mother of a job, use the Shop Manual and follow the steps.

If it's bearings they can be oiled. Unfortunately it requires removing the fan which isn't easy, but not impossible. I've done it with success.
