Currently have the head off my series 1. Lapped the valves in today, so in a while I will be ready to put the whole thing together again. Problem is I have no camshaft setting tool
I was figuring I could make one out of thick card if I had an accurate template. Anyone care to trace their tool and post it as a pdf file?
Thanks Jose, but that is the timing chain tensioning tool. I mean the plate that sets the cam timing. A template could easily be made by someone tracing around theirs.
[QUOTE=Fraser Mitchell;2003490]Not sure why you'd want to make one, as these are cheap as chips to buy.
Yes, they are cheap and I was intending to buy one. But at this time of year almost everything shuts down in Australia until mid January, as my regular Jag parts supplier (and all others) have holidays.
And postage for a 7 pound part is around 15 pounds from UK, so no longer so cheap.
Today, despite supposedly having a free day to work on the cylinder head, I only got two valves in. Other matters seemed to demand my attention and I think it is going to be like this for a week or more now. And I thought I was doing so well I would need this tool tomorrow!?
So with the delay the urgency has gone out. Clarke - if I can contact you sometime in the future to borrow the tools, that would be a great help. I will of course pay all costs.
Many thanks
John
Any time John, just shoot me a PM with your address and I'll stick them in the post.
We are working on a loan tool thread in the Qld forum in the new year with a link of some kind to the other states. There is no point all of us owning specialised tools we use rarely, if people are happy to pay postage it saves a lot of spending on tools.
