Default Car won't start, no dummy lights when turning the key

Ok guys so I'm a newbie here because I haven't posted, but I've read a lot and you are all great help. So my parents 95 xj6 had been sitting for a while and was having a starting issue. I would spray starter fluid and it would start up, but only in neutral. From the forums I saw that it could be the linkage for the neutral issue. Got a used one that looked to be in really good shape. Installed it, but I'm having the worst time trying to get the neutral light to glow now to screw everything down and tighten it up. I also installed a new fuel pump, but I don't think the dash lights not lighting up would have something to do with that. I changed out the oil and the oil pressure sender as well. After doing all these repairs I'd hate to have to junk it. If anyone has any idea whatsoever it would be much appreciated.
