Default Carbureted XJ6 with BW65

I am looking for information . Was a carbureted XJ6 with a BW65 transmission produced? It appears that it was. Late series 2? Possibly outside U.S. sales. I need pictures, diagrams or purchase parts of this mechanism. Preferably with SU carbs. If the kick down mechanism actuates an electric switch it is likely a BW8 or 12 transmission. I know that Series 3 cars had fuel injection. Any help appreciated. thanks.

Sorry my message a bit confusing. I am looking for specific details of the kick down mechanism. Thanks.

The old parts catalogs might give some illustrations that will be helpful. I couldn't find anything concrete....but I only spent a couple minutes

Older Vehicle Information | Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts

Looks like the BW65 was used in at least some Series IIs and we know it was used in early Series IIIs. Both series were available with the twin-carb 3.4 engine

Cheers

Not enough detail. I have placed a BW65 into a MK2. It bolted in. Including there were attachment weld nuts for the rear trans mount. The gear selector was not compatible. I used the original XJ6 gear selector on the console. The selector is from non U.S. cars and does not have the cruise control switch. This has become a difficult project but is nearly complete. I require the kick down used on carbureted XJ 6 with the BW65. If anyone has these components I would appreciate photos. thanks.

This is purely memory as it way before computers and digital cameras.

I fitted a BW66 (same beast) to my S Type 3.4 (close to a MK2). This replaced the BW DG that was fitted.

I used the OE gear lever arrangement on the column, just looked at what I had. and what I wanted, and made it work, Details, nope, too long ago.

The kickdown, I used the throttle arm that is poking vertical between the 2 carbies, and a bracket attached to a manifold stud, and fiddled around until I had it where I wanted it, and it worked.
I think? that vertical arm was related to the Anti-Creep brake fiasco.

The dipstick tube became a mastery of plumbing, but also worked well.

I had a few S2 4.2 BW65 with SU carbies in the fleet, and looked at the kickdown set up, NO WAY, that was going to work for ME on the S, so I moved on quickly.

Series 2 XJ6 4.2 down here had SU and BW65 as standard, NZ also, I seem to remember. Strombergs came in later in the Series, along with air pumps, but were mostly swapped out for SU and the related linkages. Again too far back to give specific "how to" details. Daimler here were all SU fed.

I will consume some suitable refreshments during the day, the "pretend Jag" needs some serious talking to, maybe a BFH or 2.

If something rises from the memory I will post back.

I had a '76 XJ6C fitted with the BW65 box and twin Strombergs. The kickdown mechanism was cable actuated like the SIII cars. I would think the brackets are the same.

Others will chime in.

Default Kick down

there are various set ups depending on market. this is from the parts catalogue for series 2 and shows the linkage set up at the rear of the throttle shaft (c.43664) and the throttle cable (c.31821/1). this all bolts on with the rear inlet manifold to head studs. The little lever off the end of the throttle shaft (directly above the number "c.30378(2)) is where the kick down cable hooks on.

My series 1 4.2 liter has the BW 65/66 fitted with the linkage so aptly described by Red above. No electric switch. It works fine.
According to the factory manual you need specialist equipment to adjust it, probably a job for the experts, but luckily, my works OK without going thru that drama.
With the price of fuel escalating here in Oz, I refrain from using it too often though.

I found some old pictures from when I was an apprentice, might help you to orient where the mechanism sits on a 4.2 with SU HS8's and BW65 (Australian market).
Hopefully they help!
