Carbureted XJ6 idle w/ A/C on
On the carbureted XJ6 is there a device that boosted the idle speed when the A/C compressor is on?
I have not been able to find any mention of this. If one is not used how is the compressor load dealt with at idle. Thanks.

It depends what market you're in but if you are in the US and have a vac retard distributor, this acts to raise idle under load of the a/c compressor. What happens is vacuum drops when the compressor is on at idle. This lowers the vac at the idle retard capsule (which is only active at idle), advancing the timing slightly, raising idle speed.
This is the only compensation device I know of. There's no idle speed solenoid like you'd find on an american car of a similar vintage.

Great answer. Thanks. My previous message appears to have disappeared.
I always wondered about this. I know now to maintain the original carburator. With fuel electronic injection I understand maintaining idle. How does someone with a MK2 get the monicker "rust free".
Thanks
