Default cassette won't eject

Just bought my first Jag, a 1986 XJ6. Love it. I was getting myself used to the radio controls and I inserted a cassette. Now the eject button doesn't seem to work and the cassette won't come out. worst part of this is that the radio shut off, so until I get that cassette out, Im not listening to anything. Any help? Regards, Dave

Oh, such memories of the 80s! Cassettes were prone to so many problems. Try pushing on the cassette through the opening with a small screwdiver while hitting the eject button.Sometimes pushing and prying up gently will help. If you get it out don't try another cassette!

can you post a picture of the radio?

I have a 1985 or 1986 cassette in my '84 XJ-6 that has an intermittent eject button, works sometimes, doesn't other times. I have found that pressing the eject button several times or even holding the button pressed will eject the tape sooner or later.

if no luck, then removing the radio will be the only option to find out the cause, it is a electromechanical switch; when you push the button, electrical contact is made and a second switch does the ejecting.

Yeah, I have cassettes in each of my old critters. The one in my Jeep just developed a habit of auto premature ejection!!!! Bad cassetes or bad radio.

I've two spare XJ radios that appear similar to the one in my 83. Do they work, I don't know? But, as the one in my jaguar works in radio and cassette modes, I'll not fix what does not need fixing.

In past years, I've fitted many "radios" to my critters. Each just a tad better than the old one. At one time, I had a shelf of old ones.... Tossed.
Probably a mistake. Some factory originals!!! Others just parts house stuff.
