Default Correct oil pressure?

I've hunted through the thread archives and haven't found an answer to this:

What is the correct running oil pressure for an XJ6 S2?

I have a 1976 XJ6 4.2 which is currently acting as my daily runabout. When the engine is just started up it reads a little over 40psi on the gauge, which seems right. It is summer over here so quite warm.

When the car's been driven for 20min or more the oil pressure when driving drops to 35-40psi, and around 30psi at idle. After an hour or so driving on a hot day it can drop to around 25psi at idle and around 35psi with some revvs, is this all normal? The car certainly drives beautifully aside from a rough idle when warm so I am hoping this is close to correct but being my first Jag I want to be certain.

My Shitbox Rally 74 Daimler Sovereign sits closer to a steady 40psi which is what has me a little worried about my good car.

According to my Ser III data.....I can't see why a Ser II would be different....the spec is 40psi at 3000 rpm warm.

The results you mention sound good to me

Cheers

Agree. Quit worrying!! A rough measure is 10 pounds per 1000 rpm is good.

Your s... box guage may be dampened in ordser to keep folks from worryin g about normal variations in OP. My 94 Jeep seems that way while my Jaguar tells it pretty much as it is. Although Jag senders reputtion isn't that good. But, if it is registering, that is all it takes. MIne went low and scare me a bit. But, I changed it and all is well.

Thanks guys, just getting used to the new car and since they have a reputation for high maintenance (mine is supposedly one of the best around but I've had to rebuild the rear calipers, there is a slight wobble in the front disks, the regulator for the alternator seems to stick off on occasion but comes good with revvs, I've split 1 fuel line and one radiator hose so far in the last couple of months of ownership) so am being safe

There are two wires on the alternator. The large one carries the current back to a post on the firewall. The smaller one is an exciter/indicator. Clean the connection and it may just fix any issue. if the exciter isn't working, it becomes a one wire alternator and takes a bit of revving up to get it to kick in.

Jaguar mantra Clean, lubricate and tighten. Fixes most electrical glitches. I coined the term, "electrickery".

I have two small household bulbs. Going to see if they are good by the use of my VOM and check for continuity. Yeah, why don't I just put them in a lamp. Cuz, it is the night light in the bath and the socket is suspect!! Yeah, I have a tester for that as well.

Happy New year

Interesting comparison, I did 300km yesterday in my other xj6, my Shitbox Rally 74 Daimler Sovereign, it held a constant 50 on the oil pressure and the volt gauge was showing charging at around 15v which sees a little extreme (Haven't confirmed it with a voltmeter yet)

I made a patch cord for my VOm to enabe it to b e connected vis the cigar lighter receptacle. Reads voltage in real time under various conditions. The meter on the Jaguar fascia is slow and somewhat irregular. More like an indicator rather than a measurement device. In this manner, I exonerated the alternator and convicted the battery. New battery, a Yellow top Optima and all is well.

If someone has fitted an irregular sender, you may be getting a false OP reading.

If the gauges are inaccurate or fluctuate, twist the tach or speedo and pull out of dash. Behind the dash between the tach and speedo is a instrument voltage regulator. This unit lowers the steady voltage to the gauges below 12V and is easily changed.
