Default Darn ole Lucas Electrics... ;)

This week my Speedometer transducer when out on my 84 XJ6...
Car only had 147,000 miles on it...
When I removed it, I found out it was the original, dated 04/84...
You would think that an English made part that is subject to all types of weather and road grime would do just a little better than that, right?
I'm starting to understand why the Ford types frown on the Lucas Electric parts....

(Pun intended)...

When we bought our 79 XJS in the early 90's, the auxiliary cooling fan failed shortly after. I thought, here we go.... I removed it for diagnosis, and noticed the Lucas sticker was lifting. Pulling it off revealed "Bosch" underneath. Over the next 7 years, that was the only electrical part that failed on the car, except for the starter needing to be rebuilt. But I think that was Bosch also. Not a single Lucas part marked "Made in England" expired.

I long maintained that the much ballyhooed Lucas horror stories have been overblown. Once a legend takes on a life of its own, though, it's hard to kill it :-)

Cheers

I agree Doug, but we do "milk it" for all we can get sometimes hahaha.

In all my Jags, the Lucas failure was mostly caused by some "dipstick" not repairing as intended, and blaming the Prince of Darkness.
