De-coding XJ12C
Hi
I just bought a -76 XJ12 Coupe. Black. Interior white leather. Condition; will need lots of work to get running...
- I need some help to de-code the type plate in engine compartment. Do you have a list what the letters/Nubers stand for?
car no: 2G 50392 BW
Body no: 5G1456
engine no: 7P 25741 / SB
Gearbox no: 28335
- I cant find any color coding plate anywhere (looked at doors, in engine compartment etc...), The car has been brown from the beginning, at some point repainted black (see picture), I would like to restore to original. How do I find the color code?
Thx
Marcus

You can buy a heritage certificate from Jaguar Heritage but it will cost a few $$s
Jaguar Heritage. JAGUAR HERITAGE ARCHIVE
The colour "Carriage Brown" was very popular in the 70s, I used to see lots running around Birmingham in that colour. There were some odd-ball colours too, like "heather" (pink !!)

Here comes a picture of the car
Got these data from Jaguar Daimler Heritage trust (great service)
Original exterior colour: Sable (brown)
Original interior colour: Biscuit (some kind of light brown or how would you describe it?)
As you see the all interior is white leather (black ceiling, carpets), I would guess replaced sometime in the 80s at the same time as the huge phone was installed =)
Considering the cost and that the interior is in quite good condition I think I will keep it black (but needs re-paint). Any tips for other colours that fits with white/black interior? A car from the 60s could have been red...

I was intrigued by your question so I spent sometime Googling around so here goes.
1. Keep as is ( Change headliner to light grey).
2. Chevy Belair Red
3. Powder blue ( Change headliner to light grey).
4. Deep blue.
Congratulations it is a beautiful car.

Hi Rusty
Deep blue is a good idea. Will look into that. I also saw a dark red (wine colour), also great... lets see
Any thoughts about removing the vinyl top? How common is it to remove? Would I get stoned by other jaguar owners? =)
