I have, at least I think, a 1988 Jaguar XJ6. I just bought it yesterday. But the years on this forums show the XJ6's going to 1987 and then the XJ40's starting in 1988. My sticker on my engine frame says 3.6 so I'm guessing it's not a 4.0. Any help? Also, I have no idea if mine is a "special" model like a vanden plas or anything like that. How do I find out?

You have an XJ40 ,I checked out your other thread on the Newbie Forums . Your ride is XJ6 in other words, Jaguar XJ6 (not vanden plas ) .Don't worry you have still a Jaguar . Your engine is 3.6 liter (base models came with 2.9 liters )

thanks for the replies. It doesn't make sense that if it's a XJ40, why does the badge say XJ6? But at least I know now what I have. I'm sure sure what its worth or what i'm getting myself into. I know it needs some work and I'll start this weekend with the brakes, but I only paid $1200 and it seems to be a nice ride for what I paid.

 

XJ6 is a model label just like Sovereign or XJ12
XJ40 is factory code for 1986-94 XJ Series'
Ex : 2010 Mercs S600 is called W221
