Hi
Just sharing some pictures of my indoor Xmas project (too cold to work in the garage). The HVAC unit was (like rest of the car) rusty & dirty + with the old foam in various stages of disintegration. Time to take it all apart and clean up and figure out how the whole thing works =)
Before:
All metal parts blasted… Maybe I should have just clear coated it all?
Installing the flaps. Those are a pain to get back in. The small plastic bits were partly broken, got new ones from a 3D printer. This whole thing is really not designed for assembly anyway…
Close to finish. Figuring out all those flap rods and springs was not as easy as I thought...
All finished and packed for storage until rest of the car is ready (a couple of years…)
The testing of all vacuum controls and setting the flaps will be done when installed in the car. Then I will also figure out what to do with the AC. Conversion or not and how to R134? Seems to be many opinions what to do there...
As I'm now in the midst of chasing a non-engaging compressor clutch, finding more than one component fault on the way, and trying to fix it WITHOUT total disassembly of the car, AGAIN, and having once attempted and completely Failed to extract the Matrix from a junker so I know what's involved, I am Impressed!
