Default Delanair testing without an engine

I'm back on the interior now with trim and headliner etc. I keep reading about the infamous Delanair heater/AC and get the cold sweats. Is there any operation that can be tested without an engine in the car? I realize I can't get heat or cold out of it, but will a Mity Vac and 12v battery allow me to check anything. I'd like to fix any problems now rather than after the console, dash, seats, windscreen, radio, etc. are back in place.

Thanks for your opinions.

Dave

I used an a/c vacuum pump to do just that when I was retrofitting a late XJS complete system to a early XJ coupe. Worked as expected.

You can test the function of the cam-driven flap unit, and the smooth functioning of its potentiometer - which is essential to the correct response of the flap system to the signals from the amplifier.
If you look on Jag-Aire's website there are instructions on how to do it. Also the guy who runs it it very helpful too. After that, the most important thing is to test that the vac solenoids all work and that the tiny coloured tubes that link all the functions are all attached firmly and in the right places.

Thanks icsamerica, I think my Son has a vacuum pump where he works that I can borrow.

Thanks Greg, it sounds like I can do more testing than I suspected. I'll check the Jag-Air website.

You should be able to test everything about the system minus it getting hot or cold i believe.

When I had gotten into mine, every single colored vacuum line and its associated T connector were broken or pulled apart or missing.

It also had a ground come off on the amplifier near the driver side foot well that immobilized the thing from working.

Thanks Mad Hatter, mine looks to be in original condition, but it is still scary looking. Testing will begin in a couple of days while I wait on some interior parts.
