Drain the tranny; where is the plug?
1977 xj6c 4.2 usa. So I want to drain and refill the transmission. After reading the manuals I think they are telling me to pull the pan and maybe drain some first through the fill tube connection. Is this the way? Has anyone tried to suck the fluid out the fill tube? How effective is just draining from the fill tube?
Ah; the simple care and feeding of a Jaguar!!
thanks

All mine including the X300, have had that fluid drained via the dipstick tube flare nut.
Soooo simple and 98% drains out.
The filter inside is a metal mesh arrangement, so replacement due to material degrading, is NOT an issue.
Raise the RHR of the car a few inches, and a bit more drains out.
BW12 on the early V12's, same method.

A little off topic, but......
Save your old trans fluid in a pail. It makes a great parts cleaner/degreaser for really grubby stuff.....like parts with that hard, caked-on grease and dirt. It doesn't work very fast but if you drop the grubby bits in the pail and come back the next day, the crud pretty much just slides right off
Cheers
