Eight Track For XJ6C
Hello all,
Rehabbing my 77 XJ6C. Not easy in California since emission parts no longer exist. However, I would love to switch out the old cassette deck for a vintage eight track of the period.
Does anyone know what manufacturer Jaguar used for their audio components in 1977?

Ideas:
1. If the emission parts no longer exist, BAR may issue a variance.
In the past, I needed an EGR for my 79 IHC Scout II. Nope, BAR provided a source for a rebuilt unit. Ugly and not quite right, but functional. Not pricey, either...
2. I've no idea as to Jaguar's source for the 8 track. I have a bunch of tapes and two after market devices. why, I've no answer....
3. Way back when, I sold our 65/66 Mustang. fast back. The selling point was that it had the original and functional 8 track !!!

Just so happens that I have one in the shop, that can be had cheap...
It's date stamped August 1975... With the original British Leyland tag on the back....
I'm going to be offline for the weekend, but if it's something you can use I'm sure I can get it to you cheap enough..
Cheers,
David

I want it too! I still have 2 boxes of 8-track tapes and 3 home players but no car player. However, you were first so congrats.

I've two, (I think) after market 8 tracks. Under dash mounts.
Not sure how one could be installed in a Jaguar. Maybe not at all.
And, original, not even close. If you are interested, contact me PM and maybe we can work a deal.
Tis interesting that David's unit is a :Lear Jet unit. Bill Lear was an interesting guy and his private jet became world class. Only the rich and famous can claim ownership of such a private jet...

Carl: I dont think any Jaguar ever came with 8-track player unless it was dealer-installed replacing the AM or AM-SW or AM-SW-FM radios that were fitted by the factory before they fitted AM-FM-CASSETTE units. I could be wrong, but I dont think so. Lets talk after the holidays and by then you might find your under-dash units. Thanks.

This 1976 (USA) brochure mentions the 8-track being standard equipment but I wouldn't be surprised if they were all "shipped loose" for dealer installation or perhaps even "port installed".
Or maybe not. I dunno!

There is a way. My 69 Toyota FJ40 came sans "tunes"! I acquired a small AM/FM radio and under dash mounted it. then, I decided on
an 8 track. Alas, no more room. Cozy cabin. I installed a kit to remove the "three on the tree" shifter to a more appropriate "three on the floor". Retrogression, actually, done with Toyota parts "of the shelf". Un did the advancement!!
Eureka, under the seat. Easy to reach. simple controls could be operated "touchy feely". After I put it all together, I realized it was upside down. Again??? Nope, no matter worked just fine that way.
when it was sold to a kid, he and hos pals were delighted. It left with
Johnny Cash in full voice....
So, an after market would probably go under a Jaguar bucket just as well???

This one was in a 75 XJ12 that was pretty much untouched...
Plus the British Leyland tag on it kind of leads me to think it was likely a "factory" unit....
