Quick question, and I'll follow up with photos of some kind to help describe what I would like to do/ am looking for.

I would like to know what exactly constitutes or comprises the "engine wiring harness". Reason why is (and I will supply a photo of the damaged areas) is a portion of the wiring in my xj6 is rather odds and ends, even badly damaged.

So here is the photos, please just let me know if the focused areas are in fact part of the "engine wiring harness". Thank you for your time.

And here is one of the exterior just to remind my self of what a beautiful machine it is. Don't mind the paint/body damage.

I can't really answer your question with authority.

I do know that the fuel injection harness...the one with branches actually going to the injectors... is sold separately.

This is what I'm checking out:

Here is the description of the same part number from jagbits

http://www.jagbits.com/mm5/merchant....ode=DAC2389-OE

"ENGINE WIRING HARNESS, FITS 1980-1987 XJ6 FROM VIN 309116 ON.. This is the ignition wiring harness, NOT the fuel injection harness."

Any thoughts ?

I *think* that would cover the ignition coil, sensors on the coolant rail, and oil pressure switches.

Some guys make up a new harness in their garage...not terribly hard.

The worst bit of these harnesses are the multi-pin connectors. They are molded onto the wires and over time, lose contact, and the wires themselves snap at the point they enter the moulding. The fuel injection harness is difficult as a DIY because of the injector plugs, but replacements have been available at least in England, by after-market suppliers. The ignition loom is easier as the connections are the usual Lucar connectors.

The heat they are subjected to also does not help them attain a long life, and from the looks of your car's paintwork, it has got very hot in the Phoenix sun.

35 seconds on the internet came up with this US supplier - $350 for the injection harness, not a bad price, all things considered

I wonder how many they sell?

Last V12 F.I. harness I made up I only charged $200, all-in. I'm wayyyy too cheap or they're wayyyy too expensive :-)

Alright, well i suppose i'll order this manufactured engine harness when i get my next paycheck. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

And yes it was incredibly hot summer this past year and I'll personally be insulating the new harness when it comes in to combat the high temperatures which I'm sure most jag owners would have to deal with.

HI...

(Just looked at your link, that is the one that I call the electrical harness below)

I'll just add a little to what Doug has mentioned...
There are actually 3 harness' that you are showing..

1) (I'll call it the electrical harness) the harness that Doug mentioned, it also goes across the front of the engine to the alternator and a/c compressor... this one originates under the air filter housing...

2) Fuel injector harness

3) Emissions harness... goes from the air pump, across the front of the engine, and to the purge valve and 1st sensor on the rail...

Couple of additonal comments on your photos:
574 - shows only the fuel injection harness and where the emissions harness ends, at the first sensor on the rail.
577- Shows part of the electrial harness going into the coil.. note also that some of those wires come directly from the Igniton Amp..
575- Shows only the male side of the fuel injection harness... Nothing you purchase will include from there down. It goes from there straight through the firewall to the ECU..
578 - Shows a misrouting of the electrial or emissions harness, probably to do some taping or repair.
576 - The big coil of wires is the fuel injection harness.. the only thing there that is on the electrical harness is the green wire going to the temperature sensor.
580 - is the end of the emissions harness...

Looks like you may have multiple faults there...
You can still find good supple harness on parts cars if you have a good look around. I've actually replaced all of mine from an 86 that I picked up that only had 68K on it.. Wiring was perfect. The cost would be less than $100 for all three I'm sure....
Another suggestion would be to move the FI harness off of the block when you replace it. I moved mine with no modifications... I'll be glad to show you how to do it...

So good luck with your project...
