Default Engine rebuild - makes the choke obsolete?

The body of my car is 1972 XJ6 SII L. In 1999, it got a complete rebuild, and on the three pages of maintenance documentation I can see that:
- DFI injection system was put into place
- Remove old engine and build blueprinted 1980 engine ready for super charger (V1 Vortech)

So I am assuming this means I do not have the carburetors any more, and therefore the choke knob does not actually serve any purpose with this rebuilt engine, correct? I mean, when I pull out the choke a bit, the choke light goes on, but I am assuming there is nothing happening under the hood.

From afar, mebbe so, mebbe not!!!

Depends on how the EFI was set up. Most EFI has an auto enrichment method. some not used and a mechanical or electric enrichment installed. .

So, unless you live in a very cold climate, your car may start sans any choke aka enrichment needed.

So, the cable may be functional or dormant (unconnectec) yet the warning light remins functional.

Look under the bonnett and track the cable to a terminus or flying free...

Thanks much. I have only had the car for about a month. I thought I was getting 72 XJ6 Series II, but lo and behold . . . rebuilt engine was a surprise, but I think in a good way. I am bringing into the shop for some minor things soon, so will have my mechanic research that about the enrichment system. It's my understanding that it should be all chip controlled, but we'll find out soon. I feel like such a novice asking these questions, so I appreciate your advice without making me feel like such a newbie.

Welcome aboard Vanessa, none of us were born with the current knowledge we might have. Ask away....

Hello, Vanessa,
First off, you have a copy of The Most Beautiful Jaguar ever to roll off the assembly line! (I freely admit my Shameless bias.) And second, a blueprinted engine with a Vortech supercharger in a Classic Jaguar will be a bit of a Sleeper depending how it was done.

In your shoes I would do exactly what you plan to do; take it to a mechanic who can lay eyes and hands on it and probably tell you what you have and how it's set up, especially if it's any way computer controlled.

You are gonna have SO much fun with your car!
Welcome to our playroom from ElinorB.

Welcome to the Forum. When I got my first Jaguar 6 years ago I knew zilch, now I own three. If you post some photos of your car we would all love to see them.

The Series XJ are about the best cars of all time. A Series 2 with a Series 3 engine and a centrifugal supercharger is something amazing. Photos, incuding some of under the hood, please.
