Hi everyone - we are getting to the point where we can start reconnecting things up again, and we have stumbled into a problem with our exhaust.

The guy who bought her from my dad went and fitted a 4.2 front section to the exhaust ( from the manifold to the first connection.) It worked, however, it resulted in the exhaust hanging down too low and causing a problem.

We need to know the measurement of the height of the 4.2 engine, compared with ours. An easy way to do it, I imagine, is either to measure the engine from bottom of cam cover to the bottom of the sump... or possibly the space between the cross brace running across the engine, down to the top of the cam cover - I will then be able to do the same measurement here on ours and work out how much shorter our down pipe should be.

I hope that makes sense, and hopefully one of you guys with a 4.2 has a tape measure handy and can quickly run out to the garage and measure or me!!

Thanks very much!

Okay. I put a straight edge on the sump, and measured up to the lowest edge of where the cam cover touches the head. 26 1/2 or 26 3/4 inches.
