Default Fascinated by the Harrods Xj6

Hi All,

thought i would post this one for a bit of fun, i have always been fascinated by the Harrods Xj6.

i have been tempted to do something silly and replicate the interior

has anybody actually tried to replicate this interior in their current Jaguar
are there any design specs around today or more specifics

for those that don't know the car

The Harrods XJ6 - AROnline

Conversions were by Panther Cars exclusively for Harrods in London.

The launch car was exhibited on the Panther Cars stand at the Earls Court Motorcar in 1986 with a price tag of £37,000. It was a 4.2 automatic Sovereign but they were available as a 4.2, V12 or Daimler.

Modifications were as follows:

Exterior

Harrods and Panther Cars gold plated badges
Boot mounted TV Antenna

Interior - General
Re-trimmed in Beige Connolly leather with Brown piping
Suede door casings in Beige incorporating Harrods 'H' motif
Beige Wilton carpets with Harrods 'H' motif
Optional 5-piece leather luggage set by Tanner Krolle
Full Jaguar tool kit in Brown leather case

Interior - Front
Nardi leather 3-spoke steering wheel with customers initials engraved in a gold ingot
Gold plated door handles, locks, gear lever and ashtrays
Overhead stereo mounted in burr walnut console with infra-red remote control
Harrods note book, pen and calculator
Electric razor concealed in a drawer

Interior - Rear
Gold plated Harrods carriage clock
Burr walnut console housing 8'' colour TV and video recorder
Drinks cabinet with Harrods crystal decanters and four glasses
Burr walnut roof console incorporating gold plated manicure set
Burr walnut picnic tables, storage area for video and audio cassettes and two sets of stereo headsets

The gold is yeughhh, ruins what was a good mod!!! But I suspect it was aimed at the Saudi market who liked that sort of thing (though not as much as Harrods hoped obviously!).
At that period of time a lot of companies were courting the Saudi Arabs with gold plated this and diamond encrusted that. Harrods were especially into it and Rolls Royce always made "specials" for the rich around the world.

Default I am the owner of the only sold XJ6

Hi all,

I am the owner of the only sold Panther XJ6. It was purchased by one of the princesses of Saudi Arabia, then bought by 3 swedish guys, one which brought the car back to sweden. He used it up until 2008 and its was stood in a garage ever since. I bought this summer and got her running again. I’m still not sure what do to with the interior as its pretty rundown. All the wood and leather is cracking. The stereos and tv doesnt work either. However everything is original!

Fascinating symbol of 80's excess. That's quite an odd duck. I dont think is worth much as it is becasue the symbols of 80's excess are right up there with memorabilia of the 3rd Reich. In other words, it's a very small market though it may have some success politically here in America.

I say... install a new flat screen TV, upgrade the stereo system. Stance in on air ride, Nice set of wheels, black out the gold. LS conversion (if it was in the USA) so it can be a fun and usable car.

It actually works great, I did a 1200km round trip this summer without any issues at all. I think I want to keep it as close as possible to the original. I’m going to try get the stereos and tv working (along with the antenna). Also get the leather repaired and wood re-lacquered. I’ll post some pictures of the updates!

That TV antenna would make a great hood ornament. Not, but seriously I kind of like it on a vintage '80's car (on the boot) even if it is a "symbol of '80's excess".

There rear seat space is already a bit tight in a Series III. Looks even more cramped with all the other stuff. Not sure I'd wanna spend much time back there!

Looks like the larger USA-style bumpers....interesting.

Cheers

Enjoy it Jako, you have a truly unique S3. As you do the restorative work I'd urge you to keep it original!

Despite some pokes and jokes in the comments above, I'm guessing most would secretly like to own your car!
