Default Flashing red coolant light

My beloved 1982 XJ6 leaked a bit of coolant. I bought some coolant, and have fed it around a gallon, and decided to just fix the leak.

I tightened the radiator hoses and saw a smaller hose that connects the bottom of the radiator to the bottom of the fill tank (the brown tank on the driver's side).

I saw tell tale streaks of coolant on that smaller hose, up by the brown tank. I removed that upper part of the hose, trimmed .5 inches off, and reconnected it. I believe the leak has stopped, but now the idiot light flashes like I'm low on coolant (but I am not). Did I accidentally disrupt some electric wiring?

Most likely. There is a sensor in that tank....with an almost hidden wire. It probably got knocked off the terminal. Take a hard look around....you'll probably find that the wire is off and dropped down into the shadows

Thank you Doug. When I look at the bottom of the brown tank the only thing I see is a bolt in the middle. was the wire connected to that?

Also my speedometer has ceased to function as well as my fuel guage. any pointers? Happy new year and thankyou for your contribution to this forum.

The low coolant probe is at the of the tank. It appears a single blade sticking out. The wire contains the female portion of the plug.

Do you have the brown plastic coolant tank? If so.....Forward end of the tank, down low.

If you have the earlier metal tank I think the snesor is in the radiator

Cheers
