freaky fuel issue
so i fuel up only on the drivers side, cuz if i fuel up on the right side, fuel spews out everywere on the tail end of my car! The car doesnt leak fuel but every time i park for a bit i get back and start it up and its lost fuel! And if you park it for a while and have a full tank on one side, when u get back to it, the gas (sends) gas to the other tank, making one side half full , and the other as well! the fuel pump had been replaced by the used car dealer i got it from, but i guess they did a crappy job! I just dont know why this Cat has all these wierd fuel prollems!

RE: freaky fuel issue
its really not a freaky thing there is a solenoid type valve in the spare tyre area on the drivers side of the fuel tee it leaks when old and allows fuel to transfer and balance out between the tanks ...its an easy fix you just need to empty the tanks and remove the spare tyre

They DO have two gas tanks! You'll love how i found out...
So, i buy this car from this guy in Seattle and its a little skechy but whatever. Its not like a $500 jag will be the most amazing car i've ever had. I drive it. It runs. It stops. It seems just fine. I buy it. The gas gauge doesn't work. No big deal.... I drive to the gas station to fill up for the ride home to ensure i actually make it home. "oh cool, two gas tanks". I fill one, I fill the other. They're both 12 gal. Its a thirsty car. Then i drive over to the air/water station to inflate the tires a bit. Then some homeless guy tries to "assist me" by holding the air hose. Looking for money or something i'm sure. But then out of absolutely no where... This guy starts yellin and screamin! HEY!!!! TURN OFF THE CAR!!!! TURN OFF THE CAR MANNN!!!!!!, I'm thinkin, is this guy crazy? He keeps yelling. THE LEAK!!! YOU"RE LEAKIN GAS!!!! Um, Oh ****!!!!!!!!!!! lol. I turn off the car, and look under the body. Seriously, there is a river of gasoline pouring from the Right side gas tank like you'd pour a beer for a thirsty man. I **** you not! So, the homeless guy goes and sticks his finger in the hole. lol. After recovering from the shock of it all, we stick a twig up the but of this gas tank and it pretty much stops. I buy the guy some smokes and some boose and he's off.
And yes, the story is not over.... So, I call AAA to get the car towed. Turns out if you tell them the car ever leaked gas, they wont tow your ***. lol. So, here I am waiting to get killed in the Rainier District of Seattle... The AAA guy said that nobody would tow, and that only the fire department could handle that sort of situation. I remembered passing a Fire station on the way to the gas station, so i took a little hike. I was walking up right as they were pulling in from a call. I breifly explain the situation and they get another call. luckily they were interested enough to check out the car on the way back from their second call. So i went back to the car. Froze a little. When they arrived, i started the car.... and of course nothing happened.
We eventually figured out that i had to give the car a lot of gas before it would leak. So it was determined that the system had to be underpressure. The thought was that there was a leak in a gas line between one of the tanks, because it only leaked from one tank. Now, in theory i could drive home on the one tank it didn't leak from, but i didn't really feel like blowing up. Called AAA again, and explained that we had the Fire Depot's ok to tow the vehicle. It wouldn't leak unless that car was on (not a leak from the tank). I got it towed home and went to bed.
Just a little follow up. I called the local Jaguar shop, and had the long conversation. Instantly they knew what happened.
OUTCOME: In these cars the fuel system is pressurized, and when unspent gas is sent back to the tank there is a valve to prevent overfilling one of the tanks. This valve was appearently closed, and caused the tank on the otherside to overflow. Simple fix. Problem solved. Couple migranes later and its a great little car. lol.
