Question Fuel Evaporator?

I see absolutely no information on this item, i cant even find one to purchase. Im having a massive smell coming from the area, ive already torn the C pillar, seats and trim and the hoses and stuck my nose right in that tiny hole.. My problem here is what to do? it or the lines near to it are clearly an issue in that area and after looking at it theres no way to remove it for repair without cutting it out (not an option) or bending pipes that will probably never bend back. can i bypass by looping some lines in the trunk or am i missing something? Im guessing being so high up in the car serves a purpose aswell? I flooded the system to the canister into the engine and its been happening ever since. This is the 87 XJ6 model.

I have always asked the same question. All I know is that the evaporator was not born there and it must have been inserted there.

The only person who might have the answer is David Boger of www.everydayXJ.com who dismantles these cars.

There are some pic of the vent pipes that might be helpful

Thanks that does help a bit, they sure were messing around in the boot alot, i think mine is in the actual evaporator.. would you guys say its safe to take the two lines that run into it, cut them and just loop some fuel line there? Im a bit dyslexic to absorb a whole thread of information at once and didnt really notice what they actually do. If i was to cut them how would anyone suggest? Using a Sawzall on a fuel line doesnt seem like a bright idea...
