Default Fuel injection

Why would all fuel injectors mist all at the same time. Wouldnt they just spray during the intake of the cylinder their attached to? I have an 85 xj6, is only firing on cyl 1 and 6, good compression on all, spark to all. im getting stumped?

Pretty typical for injectors to "batch fire" all at once or in groups. Your is an "all at once" car :-)

If some are inop I'd take hard look at the wiring and/or the injector ballast.

With the key on, engine off, do you have 12v on both sides of each injector?

Cheers

All injectors are misting, I did a head gasket replace everything checks out comp, timing, and injectors. but I did just learn that he had let it sit for 2 years. think it may be old gas. I was very surprised 1 and 6 would keep the motor running with wires 2345 completely removed. running badly mined you but running lol. I drained the tanks going to clean up the fuel system try new fuel and keep my fingers crossed.

As I remember it, the injectors on the XJ6 Series 3 all fire together, and do so twice per engine revolution, spraying half the fuel requirement on each firing. Lucas-Bosch L-Jetronic as fitted to these cars is an analogue system, not digital, and is not sophisticated enough to inject individually like later developments.

Firing timing is that for the ignition, with pulses fed into the control unit from the coil low-tension side. Question therefore is: have you got the ignition timed correctly, and not 180 degrees out. Also check injector earths are OK, the injectors are all earthed on the inlet manifold somewhere. No earth = no firing of injector

So the ignition timing is wrong. Once you reset it, should now be OK if all injectors are firing. In my experience one can spend a "happy" few hours puzzling out these cars and getting them going.

Life's rich pageant !
